The Love Guru Makes 4th Spot After All

June 23, 2008 by Gilad

Amidst bad reviews The Love Guru made it to 4th spot when in this past weekend charts, raking in $14 million (not being sarcastic here :).

The movie was topped by Get Smart ($39 million), Kung Fu Panda ($21 million) and the Incredible Hulk ($21 million).

“Mike Myers, the master of the spy spoof, opens his movie against a spy comedy, and the spy movie genre was obviously a lot more appealing to audiences,” Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers, told the Associated Press.

Personally, I didn’t watch the movie but hit up Iron Man, which was phenomenal BTW. Did you see The Love Guru? How did you like it?

Can The Love Guru Really Not Suck

June 20, 2008 by Gilad

Following this handful of bad reviews and more that I just skipped can The Love Guru really not suck after all? Well if it is up to ESPN’s Sam Alipour he keeps his hopes up.

In a column titled Why “The Love Guru” can’t possibly suck Alipour who describes himself as a guy who “dude who has no vested interest in promoting this movie and explained by a dude who knows comedy, hockey and Jessica Alba’s tonsils” outlines 15½ reasons why “The Love Guru” doesn’t suck:

jessica alba love guru

1) LIKE THE SHAGADELIC SPY, GURU PITKA IS BATTLE TESTED
2) THERE’S A JOKE A MINUTE, AND MANY OF THEM SOUND FUNNY
4) ALBA ISN’T JUST GREAT TO LOOK AT
5) … BUT, BOY, SHE’S GREAT TO LOOK AT!
6) TIMBERLAKE, BABY!
12) THE BACKLASH FROM THE HINDU COMMUNITY?
13) BESIDES, DEEPAK DIGS IT

The Love Guru Gets Plenty of Bad Reviews

June 20, 2008 by Gilad

The Love Guru is finally out and what seemed to be an exciting production from the brilliant mind of Mike Myers seems more and more like a flop…

justin timberlake is a love guru

While the movie only came out today, media outlet have been posting their reviews in the past couple of days and things don’t look good. Maybe we should go see Anne Hathaway on Get Smart rather than Jessica Alba on The Love Guru.

Here are what some sites had to say:

NPR’s Marco Schnabel writes: “Austin Powers and Shrek have nothing to worry about — but unsuspecting audiences sure do.” He adds that regardless of the participation of Stephen Colbert, Ben Kingsley and John Oliver “None of them — not one, not for a moment — is remotely funny.”

The Chicago Tribune says: ‘The Love Guru’: No enlightenment, few laughs

The Houston Chronicle writes: Little to love in Myers’ Guru

PennLive.com asks: Where’s the Love?

Empire Movies says that while 80% of people did not give the movie a chance, he went to watch it with an objective mind. However, even that didn’t help because “Mike Myers could not save this movie. The Maple Leafs winning The Stanley Cup could not save it. I’m not even sure if Jessica Alba would have flashed those perfect breasts of hers that “The Love Guru” could have been saved. It’s that bad.

Co-Stars Praise Jessica Alba

June 17, 2008 by Gilad

Mike Myers have literally spent a couple of years (if not more) preparing for the filming of the movie The Love Guru but nothing prepared him for working with Jessica Alba.

During the movie’s premiere, Myers said “She would come to set and there would be audible gasps from all of us. I was like … wow.”

But it wasn’t only her beauty which captured his attention but also her inside. “Jessica Alba is not only one of the most down-to-earth, she is one of the loveliest people that I have ever met, she’s one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Another co-star, Romany Malco, could not control himself around her. “Jessica’s so easy it’s crazy, because she’s so down and easy that she’s really approachable,” he said. “When I first met Jessica I just started rambling. We just rambled for hours.”

Mini-Me, Verne Troyer, Talks Love Guru

June 15, 2008 by Gilad

Verne Troyer (aka Mini-Me) shows in The Love Guru that he is more than just a ‘one character man’. He is funny, charming (?) and over all he gives Mike Myers a good round for his money.

In a recent interview with the NYDailyNews, Verne opened up about his days on his life on “The Surreal Life,” voice-overs, and most importantly about The Love Guru.

Q: You clearly have a very similar and silly sense of humor to Myers. Are there any jokes you ever object to?
A: Not really. The way I look at it is, it’s a movie. You’ve got to be able to have fun with it and laugh at it. If it were outside the movie, yeah, some of that stuff would be insulting.

Q: Do people in your community ever give you grief for appearing in a film where Myers refers to you as a Keebler elf, or pretends you’re an Oscar statue?
A: Like I said, get over it. I’m sorry; it doesn’t offend me. Why should it offend you?

Q: My favorite scene in “The Love Guru” is where Myers, Alba and others come to your office for a meeting and it’s scaled down to your size, so they’re sitting on tiny couches and their heads scrape the ceiling.
A: We used that set for a lot of interviews I did, with reporters sitting on the small couch while I sat at the desk. When I walk into that room, it’s like stepping into a different world.

Justin Timberlake Praises Jessica Alba

June 11, 2008 by Gilad

While Jessica Alba is totally missing the entire media push for The Love Guru, it seems as if Justin Timberlake is fully enjoying this kind of attention and gives full credit to his co-stars.

When asked about Jessica Alba, earlier this week, JT said “Congratulations Jessica! She seems very patient, and I would assume that’s what it takes to be a good mother, a good parent for that matter.”

When asked about the name Honor Marie he added “Honor Marie—that’s a cool name. I’m happy for them. It’s beautiful.”

June 10, 2008 by Gilad

Over the weekend we learned that Jessica Alba had officially became a MILF and now we learn that she can even belly dance!

Check out this new video off The Love Guru featuring Mike Myers singing his cover version to Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker.” Jessica Alba appears 2/3 into the video as a belly dancer who gives Myers a big French kiss at the end.

I never thought I would be this jealous of a Canadian guy before…

Jessica Alba & Mike Myers talk ‘Love Guru’

On working with Myers, Jessica Alba said:

It was fun; it was so much fun — you know, going to work and not really knowing how that day is going to go, and it being so unpredictable, and you fly by the seat of your pants — that is most fun to me. Whether it be in comedy or drama or whatever, and you know, certainly in comedy, it keeps the energy up and keeps it interesting.

On the topic of love Jessica said:

In the matter of love. Well, you definitely need to be on the path of loving yourself before you are capable of sharing your life or your heart with anyone else. And I think a lot of people look for love to validate themselves or to lose themselves in, you know, putting themselves second, and it’s easy to get lost in a relationship. But you have to love yourself first before you’re even ready for that kind of thing.
